Better Off Alone New York is an independent journal for people who like to move through the world at their own pace. We write about New York, the practical pleasures of travel and clothes that make everyday life easier.

We are interested in a particular kind of freedom: choosing one museum instead of three, packing a wardrobe you recognise, taking a walk without turning it into a competition. Our guides aim to offer a useful starting point while leaving the decisions that matter with you.

A city, a suitcase, a point of view

New York is our editorial starting point. Its streets, cultural spaces and changing rhythms offer plenty to pay attention to. Our city guides pair suggested routes and ways of looking with links to official planning information.

Travel is the practical side of that curiosity. We explore what to carry, how to organise a short trip and how to leave space for the unplanned parts. Style follows the same principle: choose clothes for the life you are actually living, and understand how to wear and care for them.

An earlier chapter

This domain previously hosted a travel-apparel shop. Its archived About page described a business founded in 2020 by Eli Caner, Tanya Amini and Bonnie Poon. Contemporary coverage in AFAR documented its travel clothing and accessory launch in December 2020.

Those records belong to the history of the earlier website. The present site's editorial content is a new publication; references to the former founders and products describe that historical chapter and do not imply their participation in this journal.
